Editing Photo No3

For this photo, the colour is a bit off and too bright. So this I’ve decided for this photograph I want to transform it into black and white. Editing photos black and white is my favourite adjustment. It can change a photo completely.

For a more in depth guide on how to edit photos black & white click here.

First of all you need to click onto Image > Adjustments > Black & White.

Image > Adjustments > Black & White

There a box will appear, all you have to do is click okay. then the photo will transform black and white.

As can see the image is a soft black and white, therefore to intensify the image I have used brightness/contrast and levels to do so. By changing the input and output levels you can make the image more intense and whole lot more interesting.

How to make a Black & White photo

My favourite photo editing is the transformation of colour photos to black and white, however only when it’s done properly. In this tutorial, I will be demonstrating how to create a black and white photograph.

First, you need a photograph, then you need to open the photograph in Photoshop. This can be done by clicking – File > Open then select your image.

Once you have the image open you then need to select Image > Adjustments > Black & White. Your image will then become black and white and an adjustments box will appear, click Auto > Okay.

1

Image > Adjustments > Black & White

2

Auto > Ok

I find I’m not happy enough with the result at first so I continue to further edit the photo as follows. I use the tool ‘Levels’. This tool decides how much white and/or black you want in your photo. It does this by changing the brightness, contrast and tone of the photo.

To do this Image > Adjustment > Levels. An adjustments box will pop up; there you can use the sliders to freely edit the input of the photo to what you want and are happy with.

3

Image > Adjustments > Levels

Once you’re happy with the edit, then File > Save.

Here, you can see the difference between the original image and the black & white edited version.
